Tom Waits – “Bad As Me”
October 26, 2011 in Audio, other

If you aren’t hip to Tom Waits yet, the man is a musical genius. A modern combo of jazz influence and the voice of the devil (literally, he plays the devil in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus). His music has been featured in too many films and projects to count and it’s a god damn shame he isn’t given more credit. Granted, he’s already been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but I do feel like he hasn’t been properly given his due by my generation. Few artists who really push the limits will ever make it mainstream. (Just so we’re clear, Lady Gaga doesn’t push the limits by using saxophones in her club dance music or arrogantly “incubating” herself from the press at the Grammys). But what Tom Waits produces challenges audiences, particularly the young music generation, to recall the jazz genre as something cooler than just a part of history. Bad As Me was released on iTunes yesterday.
On a similar note, the Tom Waits Pandora station is unparalleled. He’s the man.
Couldn’t agree more.
Tom Waits has been killin the game for like 3 decades now. He writes some of the best songs of all time. He even wrote the song Jersey Girl that Bruce Springsteen “made famous”. People needa get hip.
