Behind-the-Scenes Looks at Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne

December 4, 2011 in Other, Video

The Carter Documentary showed us just how influential and moving a behind-the-scenes look at artists’ lives can be. This project, by Voyr, is enticing because it allows us to look at two of the most influential artists in hip-hop history as they embark on a journey to let everyone know they’re just that: kings in their own right. Listen closely to hear one of Ye’s production managers tell a story about giving out free tickets to a fan who claimed he’d “sell out the Garden one day too”. That fan was Justin Bieber. A year later, he actually did it.  Below you can watch an awesome video chronicling the production of the album. Should win Album of the Year but it wasn’t even nominated. Unbelievable. Watch The Throne.

You can also check out the Documentary behind The Throne below. Different projects, but both are stellar.

If you weren’t hip to Sleigh Bells‘ 2010 album Treats, then you missed an incredibly fresh and unique piece of work from one of music’s best new acts. Hits like “Rill Rill” and “Crown On The Ground” were playing everywhere last year, and if you had the pleasure of seeing these two live then you were in for a real treat.

This is a short, two-minute preview video for the group’s upcoming early-2012 album Reign Of Terror. Try to watch this and not get pumped – enjoy.

Mac daddy is brilliant! Exuberating SMILES! If only the economy could be fixed as easy as everyone putting a smile on their face. Where’s the JACK DANIELS??!! I thought this video would cheer everyone’s craptastic day up just a little bit. What is the PROGREM (program)? P- positivity. R- room. O- oval. G- gigantic. R- requiem. E- excellent. M- manikins. That’s what I’m talking about!

A Year in New York + My Love of Yoga Pants

November 6, 2011 in Other, Video

James Vincent McMorrow is like a pair of yoga pants. It’s a scientifically proven fact that yoga pants make good things even better. They are undoubtedly the greatest addition to American fashion since jeggings and their practicality and functionality mean they will never go out of style (fingers crossed). A girl in yoga pants beats the same girl in jeans any day (unless it’s this girl). Honestly, New York City is a beautiful place. Footage of New York City set to James Vincent McMorrow’s music beats normal footage of New York City any day, and the only logical conclusion one could draw would be that James Vincent McMorrow is New York City’s yoga pants. Quote me on that.

Living in New York I’d grab my Canon 7D, or S95, and shoot footage of what was going on around me. It seemed like a never ending project and you could stay filming life in New York for a long time. But eventually I put my camera down and started to edit. Here’s the end result, it’s a bit rough and ready but that’s life in the Big Apple I guess.
Turn up the volume or put your earphones in for the beautiful song ‘We Don’t Eat’ by Irishman James Vincent McMorrow.

Kid Cudi & Shia Lebeouf – Maniac (Short Film)

November 1, 2011 in Other, Video

The collaboration we’ve all been waiting for is here. This has been in the works for a while, and it has given Kid Cudi fans a hope that he might redeem himself from the mediocre singles that he’s been releasing lately.

Directed by Shia Lebeouf, the whole video is incredible dark and sinister, but it’s surprisingly bad-ass. Cudi channels a little bit of the Joker, and his accomplice is incredibly convincing as well. The whole thing is awesome, but you need to watch it and decide for yourself. I love the direction of these videos – I hope more artists start doing stuff along the lines of this and Kanye’s 30 minute epic.
